Condition Monitoring Report
Station Number: OH-HR-11
Station Name: Norwalk 1.2 E
Report Date: 9/23/2017
Submitted: 9/23/2017 8:56 AM
Scale Bar: Mildly Wet
Description:
There has been rain this summer frequently enough to keep the grass green and lush. We don't water our grass and we garden organically, so we don't apply herbicides or chemical fertilizers. We have mowed weekly all summer. With warmer days and nights, tomatoes are ripening well. New plantings have thrived. Monarch caterpillars have been munching on the Swamp Milkweed for some weeks and are present today. Swamp Milkweed aphids showed up, too, and did some damage because we didn't want to disturb the Monarchs. For the first time I can recall, white aphids were munching on a tomato plant and what looked like potato beetles were munching on a Joe Pye Weed. We had a praying mantis and some toads and tree frogs. It has been necessary to water the flowers and vegetables once or twice a week this summer in between rainfall.
