Only a half inch of rain over the past week and no rain the week before. Temperatures around 100F, clear skies and winds gusting to 40-50 mph for three straight days and nights sucked any remaining moisture out of vegetation and surface soils. Subsoil remains limited due to 5"+ deficit of precipitation since the start of the year. Some fields nearby appear to show browning and curling leaves and soybeans are still very small. Surface waters dropped rapidly over the weekend, especially creeks and streams. Birds are desperate for water and flock close to the birdbath. Lawns have browned significantly just over the weekend, especially those without irrigation.
