General Awareness: This past week we received 2.98" of moisture. The latter part of the week, we had thunderstorms, heavy rains and strong winds. River levels are up significantly. The fire ban, issued June 9, has been removed.
Energy: With the temperature dropping, last evening we lit the wood heater.
Fire: There is currently no fire restriction or ban within Mountain View County.
Plants & Wildlife: The garden continues to grow. I mowed the cemetery and the yard Thursday.
No sign of any bears in the yard or adjacent cemetery. Footprints of a large buck were found in the garden.
Birds at feeders and bird baths: Chickadees - black-capped and 1 Boreal; Goldfinch; 2 Blue jays; House sparrows; 2 Tree sparrows. Blue birds - hatched 4 and they have left the nest, but remain in the yard. The sapsuckers have hatched and 2 young were seen flying in and out of nesting hole. Lots of crows remain in the yard and nearby trees; also a Northern flicker. While out for a drive, we saw some mourning doves, and hawks.
A Pileated woodpecker was seen at Camp Harmattan.
Insects: Mosquitos; ants, caterpillars; flies; honey bees, wasps and hornets.
Relief, Response & Restrictions: Absence of burn bans and fireworks bans.
Society & Public Health: Mood: Everyone is thankful for all the rain we received.
Tourism & Recreation: This past weekend was the annual Sundre Rodeo and parade. A church Convention was held at Camp Harmattan - with lots of campers; All week, a group of RV'ers parked at the Harmattan Community Centre and toured the area.
