Condition Monitoring Report
Station Number: IA-CW-5
Station Name: Fredericksburg 0.3 S
Report Date: 5/28/2023
Submitted: 5/28/2023 11:11 AM
Scale Bar: Mildly Dry
Description:
At the farm 3.5 mi south of town, the humidity has been very good and things are drying out. I would say we are mildly dry. The tile is still dripping a little bit but the topsoil is dry. We’re letting the corn and beans root if they’re up. The heat is going to pick up this week. This dry weather won’t hurt anything as long as we get some moisture within the next 2-3 weeks. That would be helpful.
 ------
In town, we planted our veggie garden last Wednesday. The garden, along with plants and flowers around the house, needs almost daily watering. This morning I heard 2 new birds: a brown-headed cowbird (first time this year) and a European starling (first time ever). The free Merlin Bird ID app from The Cornell Lab has been a wonderful tool for ID'ing birds. House sparrows finally claimed the regular-size bird house, and house wrens have been seen inspecting the wren house. Our master, annual bird list now includes 29 species.
