Condition Monitoring Report
Station Number: CAN-BC-48
Station Name: Vancouver 1.8 NNW
Report Date: 4/24/2024
Submitted: 4/24/2024 5:19 AM
Scale Bar: Mildly Dry
Description:
Rainfall for the year is close to averages due to high precipitation in January. February, March, and April have been below average in rainfall. April rainfall is at 40.2mm, well below the average of 120mm for this station. Despite the dry conditions grass is green and lush. Things would be drier if not for the seasonal temperatures and lower intensity of the Sun. The cherry blossoms have begun dropping their petals in the last week or so, though the trees are still well in bloom. The Paradise apple tree is showing new growth but has not yet blossomed. Many shrubs are also showing new growth. There has been 30.4 GDD since January 1st. The pollen seemed heavy this year, though it was worse about a month ago. Temperatures during the day warmed to seasonal norms in the last 10 days, nights are still cool. The forest fire season is already off to a busy start in the Province. There are 119 fires currently burning, many holdovers from last year. In the last 24 hours 7 new fires have started, it has been like this over the past week. There has been no impact to air quality in Vancouver so far. People seem to be out and active during the day. Still not shorts weather, usually a coat or outer top is still advisable.
