The ground is hard and dry. I watered container plants and the veggies in my garden yesterday evening and the water soaked in so fast it was unreal. Some of the veggies are not producing well, and I suspect the heat, and more likely the drought, has something to do with that. One of my apple trees is turning dead brown, and I have already lost a forsythia plant I just put in this Spring. For the most part my lawn is still green, but I can see some patches are starting to turn brown. The bird baths remain popular and I am filling them every afternoon when I get home from work. Hummingbirds are enjoying their feeders as well. With the heat this week wildlife doesn't seem to be on the move much, so all has been quiet. I don't see the rabbits in the yard much, and I haven't seen our resident groundhog in a bit. Even the sun-loving plants are suffering from sun-scald on their leaves. Naturally the air conditioner has been running quite a bit this week, so energy use is up. I am able to water with rain barrels, so that saves on water usage.
