What a difference a week makes. Last weekend we were doing dirt work and there was no evidence of moisture to at least 2' deep. Since then we have had 1.86" of slow steady rain over several days. No runoff or ponding. All the water is soaking straight in. Some of the plants that hadn't died have started perking up a bit.
